A team of senior managers from Bristol based specialist health insurer, National Friendly, have rolled up their sleeves and transformed a classroom in the special education building at Elmlea Junior School in Westbury on Trym.
During the February half term, when the pupils were off enjoying themselves, four senior members of the National Friendly management team went to Elmlea School and got to work on redecorating a former store room, which was in the process of being converted into a teaching space. Thanks to the team’s hard work, the once dark and gloomy room is now a bright, vibrant space that will encourage learning and development amongst the children that use it.
The head teacher of the school, Clare Galliers, was thrilled with the work, especially as the room is used to teach children who need extra learning support. The environmental conditions play a major role when teaching children with learning difficulties and the improvements will help the children focus and feel welcome in their new classroom. Commenting on the redecoration, the head teacher said “I would like to say thank you to the team at National Friendly; the transformation is incredible. It is now a wonderful learning environment for the children that I give extra maths support to and for all of the children who need that extra bit of help.”
The redecoration of Elmlea builds on National Friendly’s commitment to local people and community initiatives, something that head painter and CEO of National Friendly, Richard Sear, is very proud to do. “We were delighted to be able help out at the school; we feel it is important to support the local community and increasing our activities in the Bristol area is high on the agenda. We wanted to give the staff and pupils at Elmlea Junior School a boost at the start of the new term and we hope that they enjoy learning in the newly decorated room.”
