A mutual health insurer has given local youth charity Parklife a boost, through its generous donation of £2,000 towards the building of a new playground in Houghton on the Hill, Leicester.
Parklife was set up by a group of volunteers who wanted to replace the old and tired looking playground with something new and beneficial for the community of Houghton on the Hill. Working in partnership with the Houghton Field Association, the group is trying to raise £35,000 in order to be eligible for a grant, to make the playground a reality.
National Friendly is a specialist health insurance provider that prides itself on the support it gives to worthy charities, such as Parklife, though donations from its Foundation Fund – a dedicated initiative set up to help deserving causes recognised by its own members.
National Friendly members voted to support the hard work of Parklife, which had been brought to the attention of the society by member and local Houghton on the Hill lady, Ann Sleath. National Friendly recognised the benefits a new playground would bring to the local community and was happy to contribute to the much needed funds to help make this happen.
National Friendly CEO Richard Sear said: “Our foundation fund is a fantastic way to help deserving causes that are in need of support to enable their work to continue. We wanted to offer our help to the Parklife project in Houghton on the Hill, as we felt it is a great community project that will benefit children in the local area and help bring the village together.”
Parklife volunteer and committee member Barbara Scase said: “Parklife is a great community project that will benefit the area tremendously; the team have been working hard to raise the much needed funds for the project and I speak on behalf of people of Houghton on the Hill when I say how grateful we are for the generosity of National Friendly’s donation.”
The National Friendly Foundation Fund was set up in 2003 and forms part of National Friendly’s vision to be a modern mutual for the 21st Century that meets the health, welfare and protection needs of its members.
