Fitness Fad - Buggy Buddies

Are you a new mum looking to get fit?

This month our fitness fad member attended a Buggy Buddies class in Bristol. An exercise class designed specifically for new mums to exercise and whats more your new bundle of joy comes along too.

Buggy BuddiesA stream of buggies flooded through the gates of Ashton Court towards the open park land of the Estate. The sun shine had brought out a crowd of over twenty women all keen to get some exercise in the open air while still caring for their babies. Damion, the instructor leading the session, took the crowd round to the front of the mansion for the quick warm up session. By our buggies we were lead through a series of aerobic stretches before striding out along the path and up the hill. For most of the forty minutes that followed we walked at a fast pace or ran to a gathering point where Damion wouldlead us through a series of exercises; lunges, side steps and dips before we would move on all together to the next gathering point. The estate provides fences and steps to act as gym equipment as well as a beautiful backdrop to the sessions.

No one is forced to go at any pace other than the one they (or their babies) choose. Damion impressively remembers everyones names and gives guidance, praise and encouragement. He also helps calm any baby who grows a little weary of watching by giving the buggy a soothing rock. The last session is for tummies so mothers take grassy area beneath the trees to do the ‘floor work’; leg raises, push ups and the plank, before ending up back in the courtyard of the mansion for final stretches. Buggy Buddies is an extremely baby friendly way to get an intense cardio vascular exercise session at your own pace, in the company of others while out doors. Sessions are held come rain or shine – or snow!

Weekly sessions are held on the Downs Victoria Park and Ashton Court. http://www.active8hnf.co.uk/buggy-buddies.php

If you are not based in Bristol but want to try this fantastic idea there are several classes run across the country run through Buggy Fit.
