FAQs

  • 1. How do you protect my personal information?

Any information you provide may be held on computer, paper or other appropriate form for as long as your online account is active, application is being considered or policy is in force and for an appropriate time thereafter.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and keeping your personal information secure. This will remain confidential and we will not disclose any of your details to a third party, unless at your request or if it is lawful to do so.

  • 2. What is a Friendly Society?

Friendly Societies do not have shareholders, this means the full benefits of the products are passed onto their members. Friendly societies were established historically to encourage self-help and personal responsibility and to enable people with limited financial resources to improve their economic status.

  • 3. When will I receive statements?

  • 4. Who is National Friendly?

National Friendly is a friendly society. We can trace our history back over 140 years when we were established to help people save for healthcare. This experience meant the government turned to us along with other friendly societies to help it set up the National Health Service in 1948.

We are a mutual, so we have no shareholders claiming a share of our profit. Our ultimate purpose is to provide benefits for our members and we pride ourselves on our high standards of service. We offer a varied range of products.

  • 5. Where are you based?

  • 6. How secure is my money with you?

Your money is added to our long established with-profits fund which is looked after by investment experts and monitored daily. Your investment is then spread across a wide range of assets to balance the risk and return. These include bonds, property and company shares (known as equities) and the aim is to provide long-term growth.

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) protects consumers of virtually all financial services in the UK. Depending on your policy and the circumstances of any claim, you may be entitled to compensation from the FSCS if we were unable to meet our obligations, for example to pay what we owe. If you are entitled to claim, this type of policy is covered for 90% of the claim with no upper limit. You can ask for more information from the FSCS on 0800 678 1100 or 0207 741 4100 or at www.fscs.org.uk
